How To Child-proof Your Home

Being a parent is already stressful enough, but especially when it comes to the safety of your child. You're probably a very busy person who doesn't have all the time or space to watch your child's every move, so it's important to make sure they're safe even without your watchful eye. Here's a comprehensive list to make sure your house is as safe as possible!

Why you should child-proof:

Children are naturally curious, and may tend to try and shove things into tight spaces where they may not belong. Receptacles are most commonly the perpetrators for electrical shocks, as they tend to be the most accessible to children, but they can also be very sensitive. Not only are electrical shocks common, but so are electrical fires. A fire could break out any time if a spark is created in the wrong area, at the wrong time. So if you don't want to deal with a spooked child and also want to save your house, child-proofing it is the right move!

How to child-proof your home:

If you're not sure how to child-proof or where to start, here's some products that you should purchase to assure a safer home:

  • Plastic receptacle covers

  • Electrical cable and cord concealers

  • Gates that lead into your kitchen or around the oven and stove

  • Turn off power strips when not in use

  • Keep lamps out of reach to avoid burnt fingertips

  • Educate your child about the danger of electricity and discuss boundaries

On top of buying products, it's even better to talk about the hazards of live electricity and what they should avoid doing so they can stay safe.

What appliances to child-proof:

There are many things in your house that pose as a danger, but you don't want something to slip your mind. Just follow along with this list to ensure you get everything in your home:

  • Outlets

  • Exposed power chords/ power strips

  • Lamps/ hot bulbs

Hopefully with these simple lists, your home will be safer for everyone and bring you some peace of mind!
